When completed, the overpass clearance height will be increased from 4.7 to 6 metres and Linkfield Road will be upgraded to four lanes between the Gympie Road and Lacey Road intersections.

Assistant minister for regional development, Anthony Chisholm highlights the positives of the Linkfield Road Overpass upgrade, which will provide a safer and more convenient link in Brisbane’s growing northern suburbs.

“We understand that as Queensland continues to grow, our infrastructure needs to keep up with this demand,” he says.

“This upgrade of the Linkfield Road Overpass forms part of our government’s $20 billion pipeline of infrastructure projects across Queensland.”

“This is yet another example of the Australian and Queensland governments partnering on a future-proofing transport infrastructure project, which will deliver what Queensland drivers need.”

The project design also includes a new separated pathway for pedestrians, riders and other users, plus a new on-road cycle lane for bike riders.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Bart Mellish says this transport solution will provide better connections for the community.

“With the start of underground utility relocations, we are seeing the next steps towards construction of this significant piece of infrastructure,” he says.

“It’s great to be working with the Labor Federal Government on this project, following many years of neglect and delayed funding from the former LNP Federal Government.”

Planning of the project began with service providers and the Department of Transport and Main Roads after the state government announced the release of initial funding to support the start of onsite activities in May.

The Australian Government has committed $125.5 million to the jointly funded project, with the Queensland Government contributing $50.5 million.
