These changes will create a smoother road surface, which is necessary road maintenance needed to improve safety for road users.

The work will take place over up to four-night shifts between Thursday May 1 and Wednesday May 14 2025, weather permitting.

Working hours will be from 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday. No work will occur on Friday or Saturday nights.

There will be some temporary traffic changes while work takes place, including road closures, detours, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h.

The following closures and detours will be in place:

  • Melbourne Street will be closed between Great Western Highway and Adelaide Street during our night work hours and access will only be allowed for local residents
  • Road users wishing to access Great Western Highway from Adelaide Street, Canberra Street or Brisbane Street will need to use the detours via Sydney Street, Durham Street, Mount Druitt Road (eastbound only), Nelson Street or Carlisle Avenue.

For motorists wishing to travel westbound on Great Western Highway from Woodland Avenue, Simpson Hill Road and Mount Druitt Road, there will be no right turn permitted.

The Great Western Highway will remain open at all times, and pedestrian access between Melbourne Street and Great Western Highway will not be affected. Residents and businesses will still have access to their properties.
