Volta looking for growth in 2023

European electric truck manufacturer Volta Trucks is set to roll out its Truck as a Service model in Paris and London in 2023

With a staff of nearly 700 and an investment of more than 360 million Euros Volta Trucks is starting 2023 with big plans to deliver its full-electric Volta Zero vehicles to customers in Europe and the UK.

The business, which saw growth of 200 per cent in 2022, has ticked off a number of milestones for its product including rigorous hot and cold weather testing of the Volta Zero truck between 39 degrees celcius and minus 30 degrees celsius.

The Volta Zero truck is a 16-tonne vehicle designed for urban logistics with a pure electric range of 150-200 kilometres. It has a unique design where the driver is positioned centrally in the cab, surrounded by a glass cab.

It has had prototype versions of its trucks on trial with customers including DB Schenker, Petit Forestier, The Crown Estate and Clipper Logistics and taken feedback from 1500 test drives by customers and international media.

Volta Trucks has developed Volta Trucks Hubs in Paris and London that will provide service and maintenance for its trucks in those cities as part of its Truck as a Service offer which covers ownership, financing and maintenance of fleets.

A second generation of production verification prototypes will roll off the firm’s manufacturing facility in Steyr, Austria to be loaned to customers for evaluation in early 2023.

On the charging side of things Volta Trucks has partnered with Siemens Smart Infrastructure to deliver charging infrastructure to customers.

It is also formed partnerships with Carrier Transicold for refrigerated equipment, Paneltex for ambient cargo boxes and Cake electric motorcycles to test an electric mobile micro hub for last mile delivery.

Volta Trucks was founded in 2019 in Sweden by Carl-Magnus Norden and Kjell Waloen.
